Everyday until Friday January 22, Il Fornaio will offer a $20 Dine LA experience from early to mid-afternoon. Times vary amongst locations across Los Angeles. With a choice of one antipasti and an entree, this special is perfect for discovering a great selection of Il Fornaio's Italian delights! Il Fornaio has several restaurants in the LA area. However, I first discovered this cafe while in Las Vegas at the New York New, York Casino. What caught my eye was the display of fresh bread and delicious Italian sandwiches! Not to mention the Bakery Cafe design and atmosphere! There's nothing better than passing by an authentic Italian cafe, taking you back to those memories of walking down the streets of Roma and Firenze. Let's discuss the fantastic menu offered by Il Fornaio! Menus vary between locations and breakfast is not offered at every location. This is because Il Fornaio adapts to each location and changes the atmosphere to fit the culture of each area! This decision reminded me of a great case study from the Harvard Business Review entitled "Four Seasons goes to Paris". The study discusses how the Four Seasons adapts to each country, France specifically, and sets standards with different cultures in mind. I highly recommend this case study! If you are in any type of leadership position or looking to expand a business into different locations this study will provide great examples and reasonings behind the decisions, which have contributed the the great success of this luxury 5-star hotel! As you may know from reading my other blog posts and wine polls, I am quite a fan of Prosecco! That being said, I would like to point out a few very special wine delights offered on the menu. They are the "Leonardo", Prosecco with strawberry juice, and "Bellini", Prosecco with peach juice, and Italian Mimosa, Prosecco with orange juice! Saluti! Before I mention my favorite entree delights, let's first discover a few delicious Italian inspired desserts!
My entree favorites? Conchiglie Al Pollo, a shell pasta with chicken breast, sun-dried tomatoes, Pecorino, & Trebbiano! A breakfast favorite is Uova alla Benedettina, which is smoked ham, poached eggs, filone bread with a parmesan sauce, served with potatoes and caramelized onions! The caramelized onions and the smoked ham are what I take delight in the most! I first learned how to caramelize onions while working in my school's restaurant. I added brown sugar and a hint of balsamic for a perfect sweet, yet tamed flavor! I often use musical analogies in describing dishes I'm most fond of. In this case, the Uova alla Benedettina is a melodious combination of smokey, sweet, and savory! The runny egg yolk gives a silky-smooth course over the entire dish! Truly delectable! Let's admit, poaching an egg perfectly is a rather risky process. At the restaurant where I worked, we served a bistro salad featuring a poached egg. Training was necessary! I learned that practice makes perfect and a few of my great friends mastered the technique! Il Fornaio puts a spin on authentic Italian cuisine with their impressive contemporary, sophisticated delights. A hint of Italian wine often adds flavor to each dish! In the words of Emeril Lagasse "BAM!" Love Always, Mia.
