It takes you beyond a simple menu and provides details into ancient recipes and the contemporary twists, which have evolved from generation to generation. With specific locations and time periods, this book is more than your common travel guide. Studying the tourism industry myself, I immediately grew fond of Lonely Planet's emphasis on the many layers of food tourism. With distinctive topics for each country, you will always be intrigued when flipping through the pages of Food Trails. Ingredients evoke landscapes, recipes recall history and certain dishes can unlock the very essence of a place and its people Discover Argentina's meat feast and gain knowledge about the country's mix of traditions. I'm sure that very little people have ever considered how food expands into different countries. In the case of Argentina, Italian ice cream comes from European immigrants. Empanadas come from Spain and wine from France. Sausage and cheese comes from no other than Germany. Discover the rural riches of France. Goose, duck, and black truffles are just the beginning of the unique delights of France's southern region. Learn about seasonality and farm-to-table foods! Explore holiday delights including Pate de Foie Gras, a silky goose, or duck liver paste enjoyed on Christmas in France. Food trails leads you through the natural cycle of agriculture. Build your vocabulary and discover new terms including the French word for market, "marches". It doesn't end there. While traveling though each country and exploring the flavors of each land, learn about the architecture of certain areas. Lonely Planet is excellent at providing the most detailed writings about original brands. In the South African section, a cafe is described as having a Victorian style building. Every direction, every place, and every bite, Food Trails gives a great outline of local delights!
Ancient recipes passed down between generations form the backbone of contemporary cuisine 52 weekends in the worlds tastiest destinations! What are my favorite sections of the book? I enjoyed the journey through the Michelin Star's of San Sebastian, Spain! It's inspiring to see food from land and sea prepared differently across borders! A great learning experience for foodie's and adventurers alike! I invite you to taste the cultures of the world and discover every country's unique delights! Love Always, Mia.
