A great view of the city and the bay can be seen from Twin Peaks Summit! It's definitely not a far drive form the city. For a great view of SanFran homes and architecture I would suggest visiting Almo Square, or what I call a mini park. Many famous television captures where taken in this location. Walking along Baker Beach will give you a great view of the Golden Gate Bridge! Now that I've mentioned picture perfect views, let's breakdown SF's go-to landmarks! I visited San Fransisco in the early spring and the weather was windy and cool during the day, but extremely cold at night! Let's just say that riding the trolley going up and down the hilly streets with the freezing cold wind blowing through your hair was quite the frozen adventure! Below is a link to cable car "how to's". If driving around the city, expect to run into traffic every now and then. The streets can be busy at times. However, driving a car is perfect for visiting the "most crooked street in the world", Lombard Street! Narrow, but gorgeous, Lombard Street is a unique experience, however, it requires much patience to enjoy due to the line of cars making their way down this curvy street.
Immediately across from Union Square is the huge Union Square shopping center. Located in the Macy's is a French style bakery and cafe called Tout Sweet Patisserie. A wonderful display of fresh and colorful macaroons invites you in to take a shopping break to taste a variety of delights! To accompany my cup of tea, I satisfied my sweet tooth with a taste of their petit gateaux, a delicate layered chocolate cake! I couldn't leave without trying one of their croquembouche bites! Every bite was fluffy and creamy with the perfect complement of crystalized caramel! It not only looked like a grand golden cream puff, but tasted devine! Nearby Union Square you will find several fantastic restaurants, bistros, and cafes. Not to mention, several hotels to stay in, however, the daily rates in San Fransisco are quite expensive. With my school's hospitality Restaurant & Foodservice Professionals club, I had the opportunity of staying at the Handlery Union Square Hotel, dining at the Daily Grill Restaurant (they have the best chicken pot pie) connected to the hotel, and meeting Mr. Handlery. With my group, I toured a few high class hotels including the St. Regis and J.W. Marriott. I also visited and toured the Olympic Club, which was quite the experience!
You can't visit San Fransisco without having an ice cream sundae at Ghirardelli! Ghirardelli Square is the most amazing chocolate experience! Choose from a variety for their chocolate squares and seasonal delights and you're trip will become even more amazing. If you're visiting in September, buying tickets to the annual Ghirardelli Chocolate Festival is a must! Culinary demonstrations and chocolate tastings are just the beginning. The festival is a sweet experience and tickets sell for $20 - $50 a piece! I was their in the spring, so I missed the festival. However, that didn't stop me from enjoying a chocolate brownie sundae! The sundae's are massive, so you may want to share with a friend! "Money lives in New York. Power sits in Washington. Freedom sips cappuccino in a sidewalk cafe in San Fransisco" - Joe Flower San Fransisco is indeed, a casual, yet busy city of simplicity and creativity. Find the most unique spots and you will get lost in endless treasures. Love always, Mia.
